On a Friday night in February, a group of talented and
dedicated but very nervous riders gathered to try out for the new
Team. These riders rode horses that perhaps they had never
ridden before... worked with an instructor that some of them did
not even know. Each and everyone who tried out rode well. The
mission of the team is to be TEC ambassadors and perform a
6 horse dr ill to the best of their ability. They can be seen at the
Devon Show Grounds during the Devon Horse Show in May, and
Dressage at Devon and Concours d’Elegance, both to be held in
September. We are very proud to announce this year’s Team.
Coach: Amy Swanson
Assistant Coaches: Louisa Megaw, Mikala Potrako
Team Members:
Courtney Bortle, Maddie Huis, Steven Reed
Zoe Goldberg, Anita Johnson, Kim Stark
Jamie Henry, Amy Miles, Katje Wurzel
The Team is made up of 11 riders with and without
disabilities. Our youngest member is 11.5 (as written by the
applicant) and the eldest 16. As part of the application process,
riders were asked: Why do you want to be a Mainstreamer...
What do you think you can offer the Team? Some responses
included: “I always wanted to be a Mainstreamer and I have been
practicing for 4 years”, “Thorncroft has been my home away
from home for 5 years.” “I wanted to help Thorncroft earn
money and help the younger riders” and “I want to represent
Thorncroft as best I can.” Now is your chance to shine - best of
luck with the 2008 Season!
Watch our web site www.thorncroft.org for their schedule
of performances.
Welcome New
Staff Members
Megan Goodman (left) and Dana Kern (right)
The next time you stop by the Barn, meet our new Barn
Manager Megan Goodman. If you see a pink hat and a pony tail
driving on the tractor... wave to our new Farm Manager Dana Kern!
Thorncroft is excited to introduce our new staff members...
Megan and Dana. Dana came to us the Monday we were moving
out of Dressage at Devon... just in time to pack up, inventory and
put the equipment and supplies from the Festival area into storage.
Her day never stops... installing water bowls, cleaning and
repairing fence line or the apple tree blown over in a storm...
Dana, together with Bob Jones will be our new, powerful and
incredible farm team duo. Meg is our energizer bunny. You will
find her bouncing all throughout the barn, feeding, bringing
horses in and turning out, clipping and getting ready for “HRE”.
To both of you... welcome, and thank you for choosing
Thorncroft!
The Tradition
Continues
The 29th Annual Handicapped Riders Division of the Devon
Horse Show will take place Saturday, May 24 from 8am to 5pm
at Thorncroft. Join us as we host more than 150 riders,
including some of TEC’s finest, from all over the mid Atlantic
states as they compete in dressage, jumping, trail and equitation
classes. This event offers a full day of fun, including a costume
class and a tailgating contest. This year’s theme is “Out of Africa:
A Safari Comes to Malvern”. Pictured here is the gang from the
CATRA Riding Program of Grantville who won first place last
year by transporting us to “A day at the beach”.
Congratulations
