Amy Jo Magee is a local owner and rider who enjoys assisting others in learning as much as she loves competing herself. This year she will be starting her young mare Mikayla in USEA events and hopes to be finishing off the year at training level. In the past she has spent as many hours at USEA events as she has at USEF hunter shows. In 2005 she and her home bred gelding Aaspen's Black Diamond not only captured the USEA Area 2 training level reserve champion, but were simultaneously the USEF national and zone 2 reserve champions for the Ladies sidesaddle division. She has competed at some of the largest hunter/jumper horse shows in the country including Devon, Washington International, Upperville, and PA National Horse show. On the eventing side of life, she has competed at the CCI* level completing the Morven Park CCI* in the fall of 2003. She won the area 2 championships in the Adult Amateur Preliminary division the same year, and was ranked 9th in the country at the same level for 2003. After achieving that goal she decided to give her horse some much needed rest and returned to the competition scene in 2004-2005 riding her same horse sidesaddle at training level. She rode Aaspen in his last USEA event at the 2005 American eventing championships at the Carolina Horse Park sidesaddle at training level. They finished 4th out of 66 starters and is the only rider to have competed at the AEC's sidesaddle. Due to health problems Aaspen is retired from Amy's string of competition horses but she has 2 others waiting for their chance to shine. Amy spends her spare time not in the saddle teaching others the fine details that will make their time at competitions not only more enjoyable, but more successful as well.
